WHAT IS LIFE? #26 Tim Freke and Daniel Schmachtenberger

Daniel is a founding member of The Consilience Project, aimed at improving public sensemaking and dialogue.

The throughline of his interests has to do with ways of improving the health and development of individuals and society, with a virtuous relationship between the two as a goal.

Towards these ends, he’s had particular interest in the topics of catastrophic and existential risk, civilization and institutional decay and collapse as well as progress, collective action problems, social organization theories, and the relevant domains in philosophy and science.

Motivated by the belief that advancing collective intelligence and capacity is foundational to the integrity of any civilization, and necessary to address the unique risks we currently face given the intersection of globalization and exponential technology, he has spoken publicly on many of these topics, hoping to popularize and deepen important conversations and engage more people in working towards their solutions. David Lorimer, MA, PGCE, FRSA is a writer, lecturer, poet and editor who is Programme Director of the Scientific and Medical Network. He has also been editor of Paradigm Explorer since 1986 and completed his 100th issue in 2019. He was the instigator of the Beyond the Brain conference series in 1995. David is the originator of the Inspiring Purpose Values Poster Programmes, which has reached over 350,000 young people all over the world. He is also Chair of the Galileo Commission which seeks the widen science beyond a materialistic world view.

Ervin Laszlo, Doctorat d’Etat Sorbonne (1970) is Founder-Director of the Laszlo Institute of New Paradigm Research (Italy), Founder and President of The Club of Budapest, Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, Member of the Hungarian Academy of Science and of the International Academy of Philosophy of Science, Senator of the International Medici Academy, and Editor of the international periodical World Futures: The Journal of New Paradigm Research. He is the recipient of the Goi Peace Prize (2002), the International Mandir of Peace Prize (2005), the Conacreis Holistic Culture Prize (2009), the Ethics Prize of Milan (2014), and the Luxembourg World Peace Prize (2017). Laszlo is Honorary citizen of the City of Buenos Aires and Honorary Professor of the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology and holds Honorary Ph.D’s from the United States, Canada, Finland, and Hungary. Robert is a depth psychotherapist who had an interesting response to my previous episode in this series with Rupert Spira so I decided to connect. We discuss our mutual desire to be radically honest and explore our shared frustration with aspects of the 'spiritual’ world. From an early age, Rupert Spira was deeply interested in the nature of reality and the source of lasting peace and happiness. He began to meditate at the age of seventeen and spent the next twenty years immersed in the teachings of classical Advaita Vedanta.
